UPDATE -- STILL Excellent in all respects. Now using LGTV for several days. Picture quality is just outstanding. Everything is so natural, you feel like you are in whatever program is showing. The colors and clarity are really extraordinary. I replaced my Sony LCD (6 years old) with this LG LED-LCD and am so happy to have upgraded. From other reviews this set is same as the 47LW5600 just without the local dimming. From my actual observations, I doubt you really need this local dimming as I don't see how you could have any improvement over this 47LW5700 set. The only other thing is the 5600 comes with an aiming remote. But I downloaded a free LG app to my iPhone and now use it to control my TV. So you don't really need the other remote either. The standard remote works fine as well and it comes with the LG57000 set. Be sure to reset your cable box to the 1080i spec. I had to do this with Comcast Motorola box as it was on 720p. Power off - hit menu right away - and the grid comes up on... Read more

I don't usually write reviews but after all of the pleasant surprises I have had with this set I felt compelled to write one. First off, I couldn't find anywhere on the box that mentioned that this TV was wireless but there was a wireless dongle included (+1). Assembling the stand was easy so us guys will not need the manual for that step :). I turned it on and it set the clock and it auto-scanned for channels which I canceled since I have an HDMI box attached and I don't care what channels it finds. I personally think the TV looks great. I did watch a Blu-Ray movie on it and I can say that it is not as good as the $2000 sets they have at (insert electronics store name here) but if you sit at a reasonable distance away from it the difference is not large enough to merit spending the extra $1100 in my opinion. OMG did I make the right choice!!!
The features are fantasic, setup was easy, and the picture (the most important consideration) is absolutely sublime.
Random thoughts (some of which may be helpful to others trying to optimize their setup):
- Passive 3D. Fugedaboutit. If you are on the fence on active vs passive, STOP. If you haven't seen it yet, go to your local purveyor of TVs and ask them to demo the LG passive 3D. It is brighter than active, less annoying (flicker, eye strain), WAY more convenient and cheap, and twice the frame rate. I bought a bucket of glasses that include clip-ons and even miniature glasses for the little guy. I know that technically I am losing resolution vs active, but trust me - you cannot imagine a more crisp picture on this 47" viewing 8' from my face. Or, you don't have to trust me - just go try it out.
